The problem

You have been professionally distracted.

You didn't get lazy. You got outbid. Thousands of very well-paid engineers get up every morning to make sure the next thing is always more interesting than the thing you're doing now.

Somewhere along the way, sitting still with a story for an hour started to feel like an extreme sport.

Big Dopamine
doesn't want you to know

Big Dopamine sells exactly one product: the next thing. The next video. The next ping. The next refresh.

It doesn't need you happy. It needs you unfinished. Every ending is lost revenue, which is why nothing on your phone ever ends.

They call it engagement. We call it BIG DOPAMINE.

And there is one thing Big Dopamine cannot manufacture, no matter how many engineers it hires: a world big enough to get lost in.

RECOVERED DOCUMENT · FROM THE FURBIDDEN VOYD, CHAPTER II
“A kit is born with two hungers. Milk and praise. The first is easily sated. The second can devour an entire life.”
— Salix the Unseen, The Gilded Scratching Post

The cats of Nyandor saw Big Dopamine coming. They just called it something else.

The Attention Emergency Briefing

Estimated reading time: 3 minutes. We believe in you.

Dear Friend,

Let's be honest about what happened to you.

A feed is designed to never end. That's the entire business model. The moment you feel finished, you put the phone down, and a finished user is worth nothing to anyone.

So here is the question nobody at Big Dopamine wants asked:

What is the one thing a feed can never give you?

An ending you earned. And a world big enough that you forget to leave.

Short content trains you to leave. Epic fantasy trains you to stay. It is the only genre whose whole job is to build a place bigger than your feed: maps, dynasties, magic systems, three thousand years of buried history. Too big to skim. Too strange to predict.

That's why the Protocol isn't "read more." It's two specific books: 768 pages set in Nyandor, a world of cats with a royal city, a secret police, a Magical Guild that hoards power, and a forbidden gate into every choice ever made.

And there's one more thing you should know about Nyandor.

In the story, that world has already been destroyed. Early in Book One, the narrator (a pipe-smoking cat called the Creator of All Tales) turns to you and explains where the last of it survives:

“The sole place it remains is within this tale. And while you experience this tale, it lives within you. You are its last refuge, its final Construct.”— The Creator of All Tales, The Furbidden Voyd

Big Dopamine wants your attention so it can sell it. Nyandor needs your attention to exist.

That's the Protocol. Two long, strange, serious books, and a world that only works if you stay.

Introducing The Nyandor Protocol™

A two-volume, screen-free narrative immersion system utilizing an ancient technology known to researchers as reading, and to your grandparents as Tuesday night.

  1. PHASE I · SOFTPAW

    Break contact

Put the algorithmic rectangle in another room. Meet Sory'n of Tol, heir to Nyandor's most legendary magical bloodline, on the morning of the Assessment that will decide her entire life.

    Book One, Part I · pages 1–116
  2. PHASE II · STRAY

    Withdrawal

The urge to check your phone fades, mostly because Sory'n has bigger problems: public disgrace, exile, and a clowder of outcasts in the Forest Primeval guarding secrets the Guild has killed to suppress.

Book One, Part II · pages 117–254
  3. PHASE III · THE PATHLESS PATH

    Full immersion

One reader's clinical assessment of this phase: “a page burner, moved super fast, pulling all the levers that had been set earlier.” Phone location: unknown.

Book One, Part III · pages 255–375
  4. MAINTENANCE DOSE

    The Divergent Path

Same Voyd. Other side. Book Two follows the reality where Sory'n passes her Assessment and gets exactly what she wanted. That was the problem.

    Book Two · 393 pages

What happens when you stop scrolling?

For the first few pages, your thumb still twitches. Then the story starts carrying the weight your feed used to.

Fewer context switches. Deeper continuity. The unfamiliar sensation of wanting to know what happens next and finding out on the next page, not in a new tab.

Someone finally gave cats the full Tolkien treatment.

No winking. No cute cat adventure. A royal city, a secret police, a Magical Guild that rations power, and a gate into every choice ever made.

The Furbidden Voyd

The reality where she fails.

In Nyandor, magic is the privilege of the feline elite. Sory'n, the Archmage's golden daughter, fails her Assessment in front of everyone who mattered. Overnight she's a stray with a name that's now a punchline.

Driven into the Forest Primeval, she finds outcasts guarding three thousand years of knowledge the Guild has killed to bury, and a power no cat was ever meant to wield.

Dose Two · 393 pages

The Divergent Path

The reality where she succeeds.

Sory'n got exactly what she wanted. That was the problem.

Status, purpose, a place inside the Magical Guild. But the Voyd has already fractured reality, and another timestream is bleeding into hers. Impossible memories. Choices from another life. Success didn't save her. It only put her on a different side of the fracture.

Who you'll be spending 768 pages with

Sory'n of Tol

“A young feline of keen mind and restless spirit. Her need to prove herself is the spark that most often sets her troubles alight.”

Archmage Orachys

Her father and head of the Magical Guild, chasing the mastery of spacetime “with an obsession that outshadows his obsidian coat.”

Mother Ertree

“Charismatic spiritual leader of the so-called Strays. Selfless and wise, her trusting nature sometimes endangers her clowder.”

Alaric R'ast

“The cunning and ambitious head of the Royal Kiton (secret police). An adept hunter and deductive mastermind.”

Part I: Softpaw · Chapter I
The Tail's End?

Every cat stands at a fork in the road. It is the curse of our kind to remember the path not taken and to wonder, forever, if it led to a better place.— H.R. Nimblequick, Paws and Effect

Purrhaps… this is death? The notion struck Sory'n like a splash of freezing water. If this endless black expanse was indeed Aurathel, the After Place, it was nothing like what the wise cats promised. No guiding light, no soothing calm, no spirit guardians. And no sign of Leoran, the Creator of All.

Oh, mercy of Great Leoran! What if this isn't Aurathel… What if I wound up in Cathenna! A logical end for the feline who destroyed the world.

Neither heaven nor hell made sense. Wherever she was, she was. At least the thinking part.

One. Two. Three.

I am Sory'n of Tol, and I am a cat.

An insecure, selfish, stupid cat.

But am I dead?

She vocalized. “Mrow.”

The sound left her mouth, but no echo, no resonance followed. The void swallowed it up.

Again, with more force. “Meowwwrrr!”

Terror followed, and in its wake, desperation. A yearning for deliverance, even if it meant actual death.

She is about to find out how she destroyed the world. It takes 375 pages.

“Cat fantasy? Really?”

“This is not cute cat adventure time. This is legitimate epic fantasy a la Golden Compass that stars anthropomorphic felines, and Christell commits to it completely. No winking at the camera, no apologizing for the premise.”

Frequently questioned answers

Before you begin.

Is this actually a dopamine reset?

No. That's not really how dopamine works. It's two very long, very good books. We're just describing them in the voice your feed taught you to trust.

Does it contain adaptogens, nootropics or ashwagandha?

No. No. And absolutely not.

Do I have to like cats?

No. One verified reader: “Liking cats will draw some readers in, but is not necessary to appreciate this book.” Another almost didn't pick it up (“Cat fantasy? Really?”) and compared it to The Golden Compass.

Is this a kids' book?

It's for teens and up. One reader calls it a young adult novel, and that's right. It takes on serious themes: political marriages, a secret police, Guild-led purges, forbidden magic. Adults read it too.

Which dose first?

Standard protocol: Dose One, then Dose Two. But each book follows a different reality (in one she fails, in the other she succeeds), and each can be entered on its own. Together they show both sides of the same Voyd.

Paperback or Kindle?

Paperback is the purist's choice: nothing on it can buzz. Kindle is fine too, as long as you don't go looking for the notification shade.

How many cats?

An irresponsible quantity.

No course. No app. No $89/month membership.

You buy the book. Amazon sends it to you. You read the whole thing.
